Airplanes

So I leave October 8th at 930 am from BDL and arrive (eventually) in Addis on the 9th at 620 pm (their time)... which is 25 hours and 50 minutes travel time. In the words... word of Jenner.... shooooooooooooo. That does not even count having to get to the airport early, driving to the airport, or from the airport to the Learning Village.

I go from BDL to Philadelphia to Frankfurt to Addis Ababa. I have an 8-hour layover in Philadelphia! Poopy.

BUT I AM SO EXCITED TO HAVE MY FLIGHT.

Well now here I will write the whole "how I got here" entry.
I did not want to go as a SM, really. I wanted to go through school and keep all my friend and stuff. Missing a year means that I will be a year behind all my friend in classes. No more Lauryl for Ochem and Bio. Every M/W/F I wish I was in Biochem with Lauryl, Joey, Becca, and Chris. But I felt like it was what God wanted me to do, so I applied and stuff. I applied to go to Gimbie, and I got really excited about everything. Cassie was going, so I would even know someone! Then Gimbie said no to me, and I was very disappointed. There did not seem to be any other calls (I wanted to go as a medical missionary), so all the excitement I finally found was quickly deflating. The time came to register for classes for the next year, and I registered, but I thought that if I was going somewhere, that I had to unregister by a certain time. That time came, and there was still no information about any other call. It was frustrating because I was trying to do what I thought God wanted me to do, but there seemed to be a pretty big roadblock. So late Wednesday night I prayed that if God really wanted me to go, that there would be information about a call before the end of SM class the next day (we had class Tuesday and Thursday evenings). If there was no news of a call, I was going to stay registered for classes--I basically gave God less than 24 hours to say "I really do want you to go."

So Thursday passed, (without physics, so yay, and with ochem lab, so double yay) and after dinner I went to SM class. I was just sitting there in the back with Zach, and Gayle was handing out papers. When she got to us, she told me that she had information about a call! !!!! and to come see her during break. I was so excited! She showed me an email between Cameron and Dr. Gemechu, I think, in which Dr. Gemechu mentioned that they were starting a clinic! So Gayle was going to email him about Anisha and I, who both wanted to do something medical.
And everything is falling into place.

Speaking about Anisha, what a blessing. I was a little nervous, because she was not in the SM class, and I never met her before the school year ended. But we facebooked and emailed and both cannot wait to meet one another. Yeah, we're super excited to become friends in real life :-). Now she just has to think of a blog name.

So Andrea sent us our itinerary. It had us leaving on the 7th. I went from BDL to Detroit (meeting up with Anisha (and Cameron?)) to Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Khartoum (Sudan) to Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). Buuuut my mom was not cool with the whole Sudan thing, so they changed it. We do not have it finalized yet, but the new plan is leaving on the 8th and BDL to Atlanta to Frankfurt to Addis.

Well, instead of an introductory blog, I will just jump right into things.
Okay, I lied, a quick introduction.
God has called me to go be a Student Missionary this year. I am going to the Learning Village (http://www.ethiopialearningvillage.com/) just outside the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. I will be working in the clinic there (doing what... who knows?). I am going with Anisha (who will work in the clinic too), and Cameron (who will be teaching).
I miss Southern terribly. Mostly my friends. I do not miss physics or biology. Physics tutoring and the people in biology class, yes. The chemistry and modern languages departments, yes. MY ROOMATE, FOR SURE!

Okay, so Anisha and I have been waiting for Cameron to get his visa back so the school can book our tickets. Well, he got it! Right now it looks like we will leave around October 6.
